What documents will I need for car finance?

Looking for car finance and wondering what documentation you need to provide? Car Synergy has you covered and here is our guide to car finance, along with the docs you will need in your back pocket.

When applying for car finance, it is usually a quick and simple process, but once you have been accepted and you have chosen the deal that is right for you, there are a few more steps to take before you can drive away. One of those steps is sharing your documents. Here is what you will need.

Driving licence

You will need to share your driving license and let the company take a copy of it for their records. It shows you are permitted to drive and have the necessary license for the vehicle you are buying and taking out a finance agreement on.

Proof of address

You will also need to offer up proof of your address, in the form of a utility bill or something similar. This is so the lender knows that the address of the owner matches the registered address of the vehicle and it can be shown that you are the one taking out the agreement.

Proof of earnings

While not always necessary, you may be required to share proof of earnings, in the form of a payslip or bank statements, in order to prove you have the means to afford the vehicle. This is not a given but it isn’t uncommon either, so you will need to be prepared to share this information should it be required.

Miscellaneous documents

Different lenders have different requirements and so, there may be other documents you are required to offer up when applying for car finance.
