Christmas in Leeds
Christmas is the perfect time of year to get together with family and friends, so if you’re looking for events and activities this festive season, we’ve lined up a great selection to choose from.
Take a Walk Through the Christmas Market
Christmas markets are a great place to find great food and drink, music and stocking fillers, and you can visit the Christmas market at Leeds Corn Exchange for free!
The market will be open for seven weeks, from November 11th to December 23rd, so you’ve got plenty of time to see all the market has to offer.
Go Ice Skating
Whether you’re an aficionado on the ice or a beginner, ice skating is fun for all ages. For the first time this winter, you can try the ice rink that’ll be coming to the White Rose Shopping Centre! It’ll be a covered ice rink, so you won’t have to worry about the weather while you get your skate on.
Organisers also say there will be sessions for parents, toddlers, and those new to being on the ice.
Check out Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The Musical
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a musical or two, and this Roald Dahl classic will be coming to Leeds Playhouse for the festive period! That’s right, for those who love little Charlie Bucket, Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas, you can see this musical adaptation by David Grieg from November 18th to January 28th 2023.
See the Christmas Lights
If you’re looking for something a bit more low-key, you can always bring your loved ones to the Christmas Light Trail!
There will be many installations, including wicker sculptures, a fire garden and other light features. The light trail will also be set to a selection of festive music for a more immersive experience. For those interested, the attraction will be held in Roundhay Park between December 8th and January 1st 2023.
Visit Lotherton Hall
Interested to see how Christmas was done in the past? Well, now you can follow the footsteps of the Gascoigne family, who lived in Lotherton Hall in the 1800s.
You can also take a walk around the estate’s grounds, see a giant cracker and even pose in a giant Christmas card. There will also be craft events taking place as well, including pottery painting and Christmas Eve decorating.
The hall will be ready for visitors from November 26th to December 31st.
Visit the Chow Down Winter Village
Should you consider yourself more of a foodie, then why not consider the Chow Down Winter Village?
This event lasts eight weeks, starts on November 10th and offers a selection of street food and entertainment. You’ll find mulled wine, fire pits, drag brunches and the FIFA World Cup matches will be screened for those die-hard footie fans!
