Technician Review: Latest Range Rover Evoque

The 2022 plate Range Rover Evoque has rolled off the production line, and if you’re looking for an upgraded family SUV, with styling and performance ques from the Range Rover Velar, this could be the one.

The Range Rover Evoque first came to us in 2011, as a cheaper alternative to the brand's more expensive Range Rover Sport model, and over the years Land Rover has gradually refined the style and performance. Even the earlier Range Rover Evoque models have always been deemed great in terms of their ride and handling performance, to the interior quality and quality of standard equipment but over time engine choice has improved, as well as fuel economy and the level of technology inside.

Appearance

This year's Range Rover Evoque has been influenced by the styling of the more premium Range Rover Velar, with sharper and sleeker headlights and rear lights, door handles which melt effortlessly into the body panels, and overall looks much more refined than its predecessors.

Passenger Space

The wheelbase has also been extended thanks to Land Rover’s Premium Transverse Architecture as the mechanical basis for its chassis, giving more room in the rear for passengers - which was somewhat of a sticking point when it came to the previous model.

Engines

A range of more advanced engines have also been introduced, including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric options. Two standard diesel engines and three petrol engines are also available, all accompanied with four wheel drive, making this an incredible versatile choice of SUV.

Software

As for the interior, the dashboard and infotainment system has been inspired by the Range Rover Velar; with the majority of trim levels coming with two touchscreens on the centre console and one behind the steering wheel containing the traditional dials. The operating system also comes standard with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity.

What makes the Evoque stand out from other models?

Compared to other models from the Land Rover line up, most importantly you get great levels of luxury and style.

In addition, when stacked up against rival luxury SUV models such as the Volvo XC40 and the Audi Q3, the interior is much more rich, refined, and cohesive, and you get a more dominant driving position too.

As you’d expect from a rugged off-roader, the Range Rover Evoque also comes with a standout amount of torque, along with a nine speed gearbox. It’s also extremely practical and convenient for a family sized four seater.

Who does the Evoque suit?

The Range Rover Evoque still remains the smallest, and cheapest, model in Land Rover’s line up, but this version doesn’t hold back on quality or comfort.

This could be the Land Rover model for you if you want four-wheel-drive off-roading capability paired with city driving ability, with amenities from the range's more luxury models but at a cheaper price point.

Choose the Range Rover Evoque if you want a variety of electric engine options and style that's similar to the Range Rover Velar.
