The Apple CarPlay Guide
In the majority of newer spec car models, Apple CarPlay comes as standard. This technology was released in 2014, and essentially enables you to connect and access all the apps from your phone on an interactive infotainment screen. This can be anything from your phone, to messages, maps and music apps. It was produced with the intent of minimising accidents due to mobile phones, as the driver never has to take their hands off the steering wheel.
How to use Apple CarPlay
Users can easily connect their phone using a USB cable, or via Bluetooth, as long as you have an Apple iPhone with a lightning connector (an Apple iPhone 5 or newer) and it is running the IOS 7 system or newer.
To navigate AppleCarplay itself, driver’s can use the touchscreen, buttons or rotary dials depending on what is fitted in your specific model of car. Additionally, Apple’s Siri system allows drivers to use voice commands, for example, to write out a text message, so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road or your hands off the steering wheel.
What apps do you get with Apple CarPlay?
There are various apps available for Apple CarPlay that all fall into the following categories: music streaming, messaging, and navigation. Not all apps on your iPhone are compatible with CarPlay though, however Apple is working to enable you to have access to these as the technology develops. If an app is compatible, it’ll automatically display on the AppleCarplay layout.
