V12 Version of the Aston Martin DBX S Spotted

The DBX was Aston Martin’s first SUV and since its release last year, the luxury 4x4 has received exceptional praise from critics and drivers alike. The model was originally given a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, although a V12 was expected to follow, and now it seems that it has made an appearance.

A prototype DBX SUV has been seen at the Nürburgring in mid September featuring what appeared to be a new front grille and bespoke styling options. According to reports, the model sounded suspiciously like a V12-powered DBS.

Aston Martin has already hinted that work was under way on a sportier version as well as a hybrid version of its SUV and it makes sense that the British manufacturer would want to expand this range to compete with the Porsche Cayenne. Experts say that this updated edition will be called the DBX S.

From what has been seen of this new Aston Martin model, it has a restyled front bumper to accommodate the new grille, which spans the width of the front of the car and comes up around the sides of the radiator grille. Enlarged vents certainly suggest a more intense powerhouse has been added with additional cooling requirements, which is further evidence of the brand’s 5.2-litre V12 engine. A set of quad-tailpipes also replace the standard DBX’s twins.

Where the DBX outputs 542bhp, with Aston Martin’s V12, this new model should be capable of 630bhp, bringing it up to speed with rival Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT which pumps out 631bhp. On the other hand, the AMG-manufactured V8 used in the DBX could be pressed to produce more firepower, as the 720bhp Mercedes AMG-GT Black Series has proven, and whether Aston Martin will choose to use a more powerful AMG V8 engine as opposed to going to the effort and expense of implementing a V12 is yet to be confirmed.

Aston Martin has also recently been spotted testing a V12-powered Vantage coupe. If both the Vantage and the DBX become available with 12-cylinder engines, it will mean that the Valhalla supercar will be the only model in the range without a V12 option.

In addition to introducing this engine variant, there has also been talk of Aston Martin developing new DBX body styles. Marek Reichaman, a designer for the company, hinted at a sleeker coupe-like variant and upsizing with a stretched wheelbase option.

With these new derivatives in addition to hybrid options and this potentially V12-engined version, there are exciting times ahead for Aston Martin. It is rumoured that the Aston Martin DBX S will be launched in 2023.
